Convert Your Guitar!

I offer conversions to Les Pauls and other guitars, in two varieties: The “LCPG,” strictly for Gibson Les Paul Standard Fadeds; and the “CCLP,” for all other Gibson or Epiphone Les Pauls, SGs, Flying Vs, etc., with regular or faded finishes.

The LCPG Conversion

While the absolute best guitars available for replicating the Peter Green tone, and what most people believe an original Burst should sound like, are my own Corsa LCPG or Manalishi models, if you are the owner of a Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded, you are very close. I have been doing “Peter Green” conversions to Gibson Les Paul Standard Fadeds since 2007 and, to date, have done over 300 such conversions. Unfortunately, Gibson decided to discontinue the model in 2008, despite the fact that players were catching onto the fact that Fadeds were consistently great sounding guitars, having much more resonance and sustain than all the other LP varieties available, including those with long neck tenons. They are the perfect model to replicate the signature “Out of Phase” tone of Peter Green, because natural resonance and sustain are required to make the tone viable. Original Fadeds now sell for quite a bit more than they did when they were in production, as more and more people become aware of just how good Fadeds sound. If you are the lucky owner of a Faded and want to squeeze even more tone out of it, I am happy to offer you the LCPG conversion, as follows:

  • Replace original BB Pro pickups with a set of Manalishi pickups, out of phase and reversed 180 degrees, with aged covers
  • Replace original pots/caps on metal plate with 4 short shaft custom Mojotone CTS 500K “Vintage Taper” pots and .022 Orange Drop Caps, wired 50’s style
  • Replace all original thin wiring with 2 conductor braided shield wire
  • Replace Nashville bridge inserts with aged nickel plated German carbon steel Faber® BSWKIT™ bridge studs
  • Replace Nashville bridge with aged nickel plated Faber® Tone-Lock™ bridge
  • Replace original heavy tailpiece with aged nickel plated Faber® TP-59 lightweight aluminum tailpiece
  • Replace original tailpiece studs with aged nickel plated German carbon steel Faber® Tone-Lock tailpiece studs and spacers
  • Replace stock control knobs with higher quality top hats for the rhythm controls and foil top knobs for the lead controls
  • Add pointer washers under all knobs

The cost for the LCPG conversion is $500, with me keeping all the parts left over from the conversion. Pickups may be specified to be In Phase, if desired, and in normal orientation. Also, for an additional $50, I will install a Push-Pull (or Push-Push) pot on the bridge tone control to change phase, so you can have both Out of Phase and normal In Phase tones.

The CCPG Conversion

Using the same parts and modification techniques as on the LCPG conversion, the CCLP mod adds a Push-Pull pot on the bridge tone as standard. This provides both the original In Phase middle position AND the Peter Green Out of Phase tone. This conversion is available for all Les Pauls other than Fadeds, and I will do the conversion to others as well, including SG, Flying V, Explorer, etc. If you are the owner of a Gibson or Epiphone and want to get the most out of your guitar, I am pleased to offer the CCLP conversion, as follows:

  • Replace original humbucking pickups with a set of Manalishi pickups, in phase, with covers
  • Replace original pots/caps with 3 – short shaft custom Mojotone CTS 500K “Vintage Taper” pots, 1 – 500K short shaft Push-Pull pot, and .022 Orange Drop Caps, wired 50’s style
  • Replace all original thin wiring with 2 conductor braided shield wire
  • Replace original bridge inserts with nickel plated German carbon steel Faber® BSWKIT™ (USA LPs) or Faber® E-Sert (Epiphone) bridge studs
  • Replace original bridge with nickel plated Faber® Tone-Lock™ bridge
  • Replace original heavy tailpiece with nickel plated Faber® TP-59 lightweight aluminum tailpiece

The cost for the CCLP conversion is $550, with me keeping all the parts left over from the conversion. Hardware is bright nickel plated. The reason I use Foil Top knobs for the lead controls is because of the Push-Pull pot. Regular top hats are very difficult to grab and pull up. Aside from the fact that the different types of knobs provide a tactile way to know which knob you are using without looking, the foil tops provide enough grip to easily pull up the push-pull pot.
